Apollo Maximus, Free 3D Human Figure: FAQ, Frequently Asked Questions

Free Poser / Daz Studio Downloads

Apollo Maximus, the optimal 3D Poser figure and Daz Studio figure.

Apollo Maximus:3D human figure, free figure for Poser /Daz Studio, is a human polymesh 3D model that has been designed, and rigged, to take the fullest advantage of the 3D figure rendering software packages, Poser 4, Poser 5, Poser 6, Poser 7 and Daz Studio. Apollo Maximus is a very different Poser figure design from the traditional Daz Productions/Curious Labs legacy/methodology of doing figures. I went in a new direction. Please try to keep this in mind. Some things may seem very alien at first, which is expected.

Give yourself some time to get accustomed to him. Apollo Maximus poses/scales extremely well, far surpassing other Poser figures. Keep this read-me file open while getting to know him for the first time. Everything you need is included. No rehashed content or derivatives. All the 3D/2D Poser/Daz Studio Content is updated.

Remember this free Poser figure download for Daz Studio as well, is man, boy, hero, and many other figures in one. And that legacy will pass down to clothes. No Spam. No tricks. Just a great free Poser figure that’s a lot of fun. Enjoy him please!!!!!!!!!

Apollo Maximus: FAQ; Frequently Asked Questions

Regarding Free Poser Download Files

Question: What are these free download links exactly.
Answer:
The download links on the Apollo Maximus download page will take you to the site where the free download files are hosted. Click on each one and begin download.

The free poser files within each archive are designed to be used within Poser or any 3d rendering software that imports or supports Poser 4 -Poser 7 files. Apollo Maximus works in Poser 4, Poser Pro Pack, Poser 5, Poser 6, Poser Figure Artist, and Poser 7. The Apollo free Poser figure also works in Shade, Bryce up to Bryce 6.0, Vue and the Poser emulator, Daz/Studio by Daz Productions (Daz3d).

Question: The free downloads page seems blank or won't begin. Am I doing something wrong?
Answer: No. Simply try refreshing or visit the free download page again later. You can bookmark Apollo's free poser downloads page to visit again later if you are having connection problems.

Question: Are these downloads safe to use and really free?
Answer:
Oh yes. They are safe. I have ten years experience with Poser and would never put anyone at risk. The contents are my intellectual property and you are free to use them under the terms defined on the Apollo Maximus: Free Poser Figure Download page.

Question: Do I have to download everything?
Answer:
Look on the Apollo Maximus: Free Poser 6 Figure Download page. You must download parts 1-4. Part 4 isn't out yet but you can still use him. You should download each of the free downloads highlighted in yellow. Everything is pretty much optional.

Question: Does it matter whether I have Poser 6 or Poser 7?
Answer:
Not really.
The Apollo free Poser figure was designed to be a universal free Poser download. The only specific free Poser 6/Poser 7 download link is to the Poser Face Room module. It was built for Poser 6 and will work in Poser 7. Some Mac users will not be able to use the Face Room module in poser 7. But this issue seems to be applying to other figure face room modules as well. This is a known limitation. The free Poser 6/Poser 7 Face room download is for a limited time and should be downloaded and saved even if you currently have no desire to use it.

Question: When will Part4 be out and what is in it?
Answer:
Part 4 will contain the ScalpBeard conforming Poser figure, The SkinSuit Conforming Poser figure (body suit), The FX Face Masks, the updated ADS Character Poses for Daz Studio, and some other goodies. I am currently working on it and it shouldn't be too much longer. You do not need it to start using the Apollo figure and Poser clothing in Poser, Daz Studio, Bryce or any of the programs mentioned above.

Unzipping Apollo's Free Poser Download Files: MAC

Question: I tried downloading Apollo, but the zip files will not decompress
Answer: Don't use download managers. After you each finished downloading each figure zip individually, unzip each free Poser download archive and enter the password on the free download page. See steps below depending on Utility used.

Mac OS X (10.4.8) on Intel Apple iMac:The native zip decompression does not know how to open passworded zip files.
1.Just drop over .zip file over Stuffit Expander (made sure its high lighted.)
2. copy and paste password (or type it in)
3. watch it decompress
At this website Stuffit Expander version 11 is Free

Figure Content Installation: General

Question: Apollo's obj file in this download still says 2005. Is that the wrong one?
Answer: No. The obj onside the "part1" free download did not change. The name stayed the same to ensure support with the Poser Face Room and certain Poser utilities/add-on products.

Question: I am a previous owner of Apollo Maximus 2005 or Apollo Maximus 2006. Do I need to uninstall my existing files?
Answer: Yes. The folder structure and names of many files changed.

If you purchased Apollo Maximus 2005 from Runtime DNA, purchased Apollo Maximus 2006 from Content Paradise, or have Apollo Maximus 2005 Compact included free within the Poser 6 book, Practical Poser 6 , then remove the files that were created by me only, leaving and 3rd party content, and do a fresh install of Apollo.

Figure Content Installation: PC

Question: Where do I put these files once unzipped?
Answer: The Runtime folder and Read me folder are both put into your Poser folder where the other runtime folder is. You will get messages asking if you want to replace existing folders/files. Just say Yes to all.

Figure Content Installation: MAC

An installation walk through kindly written by GhostOfMacbeth at Content Paradise: Opening and installing Apollo on a Mac.

  1. Download the free zipped archive download file from Apollo's download page. It may attempt to auto open depending on the Internet program you use. Some people have reported problems with various browsers but I most use Firefox and had no problems. The BOMAArchiveHelper that comes with the current OSX Macs has issues with the zip and you must use the free Stuffit Expander from http://www.stuffit.com/mac/expander/index.html or something else similar.

  2. Open the zip, you will be asked for a password. It is allfilesarecopyrightprotected

  3. You should now have a folder per zip with the “ApolloMaximusReadme” and “Runtime.” Take a moment and read the read me and then dive into installing Apollo. If you are only installing the base it will be easy. Create a folder (I called mine “Apollo 07” and place it where you like. I added mine into the Poser 6 folder but you can place them anyplace you will remember.

  4. Take the Runtime folder from “ApolloMaximusPart1core Folder” and drop it into your “Apollo 07” folder (or whatever you called it). In Poser you can then add a runtime. You would go to the main directory that lists all of your runtimes and there should be a plus symbol on the bottom of the library screen. Locate “Apollo 07” folder and you should be set with the basics.

  5. If you want to have the other content here this is how you would proceed. Locate your “Apollo 07” folder and open it, open the “Runtime.” You will see a number of folders such as “Geometries” and “libraries.”

For installing “ApolloMaximusPart2Maps Folder” these are the instructions.

Open folder, you will see the Read Me and runtime folders, open the runtime folder. Inside you will find “textures.” If you open that you will find “Anton’sApolloMaximus” and inside that you will find “Body,” “FX,” “Hair,” and “Toon1.” If you simply drag the “textures” folder onto the “Runtime” folder in “Apollo 07” it will replace whatever textures you have with the new ones. It is a common PC-user mistake since that would, typically, merge the folders on a PC. It doesn’t work like that on a Mac so we must open the “textures” folder and then open the “Anton’sApolloMaximus” folder for both the original runtime and the one from part 2. Add the Body, FX, Hair and Toon1 to the folder that contains “Templates” and you should be set.

With the additional parts you would follow the same directions by comparing, opening the folders and dragging the new content in. Hope that helps and have fun.

Question: I am used to using installers for Poser content. Are there any Poser utilities for Mac users you might recommend?
Answer:
MacPoser Browser Pro, for sale at Renderosity, comes highly recommended by many Mac users.

Figure Content Installation: Daz Studio

Question: After I download and unzip each zip file, where do I put these free Poser files for use in Daz Studio?
Answer:
You can install each Poser Runtime folder to the Daz Studio Content folder. Daz Studio will then display that Poser Runtime folder in the Content tab as "content" and that will expand to show you a default runtime layout:

Camera
Character
Face
Hair
Hand
Light
Materials
Pose &
Props

If you also run Poser 4, Poser 5, Poser 6, or Poser 7, and have Apollo's free Poser files installed there, you can browse to the Poser Runtime folder through the Daz Studio Content tab and the Poser folders will also be displayed as noted above

General

Question: What software can I use these files in?
Answer: Any 3d rendering software that imports or supports Poser 4 -Poser 7 files.

The obj files and textures will work on any software application that can import/load the .obj file format and supports the .jog & .ping image file formats.

Question: Can I use Apollo with Mimic?
Answer: Yes. User Little Dragon  was nice enough to contribute a Mimic Configuration file which is inside the Read me folder.

Clothing

Question: Why can’t I get Apollo's clothing to load when I click on a thumbnail?
Answer: If you can load Apollo and you have downloaded the free separate zip archives for Volume 01, 02, & 03, you will have cr2 thumbnails in Apollo's character folder.

If you are trying to load clothing by clicking on the thumbnails in the Pose MAT folder, that won't work because they are for adding texture maps to the cr2's. If you haven't yet downloaded all the zips currently up, please recheck his download page and be sure you have them all.

If you cannot load Apollo or the clothes and are on Mac, AND are using an external runtime, relocate the files to the Poser runtime folder.

Question: Apollo's shoes don't line up with his feet exactly when I conform them.
Answer: Always turn off leg Ik for any leg/foot clothing and simply re-conform it to Apollo.

Question: Apollo's genitals show through his pants. Is this normal?.
Answer: Yes. You can make those groups invisible by clicking the Genital hide pose in the Utility Pose folder.

Textures and Materials

Question: Where are Apollo's Materials?
Answer: In the Poser 6/Poser 7 Material Room, you will find them in his library folder. Poser 4/Pro Pack users will find them in the Pose library his P4MAT folder.

Question: How can I apply Apollo Maximus textures using Daz|Studio?
Answer: Select Apollo and click any MAT files in his P4MAT folder

Question: Will older Apollo textures still work?
Answer: Yes. The UV mapping did not change. All previous 3d party textures and materials will still work so long as you have them installed.

Rendering in Poser

Question: Apollo has some large spots on him when I render from far away?
Answer: Your "Min Shade Rate", under "Render Settings" is too high. Set it to .20 or use the render settings I included in the Render Setting folder Poser 6 defaults to.

Questions relating to the Cole Morph Package, by Capsces, for Apollo Maximus

Question: What is Cole? Where do I get him? Does he work with Apollo Maximus 2007? How do I install the update.
Answer: Cole is a commercial Morph package for the original Apollo Maximus 2005/2006 Poser figure product. It is the original cr2 with additional morphs. This product by itself is not compatible with the new features, morphs, or scaling dials available in Apollo Maximus 2007. The original Cole Poser cr2 file lacks the new data available in the new Apollo Poser cr2 file.

However, the creator of Cole, Capsces (Beth), has released a free Poser cr2 update for Apollo Maximus 2007. This free update download is encoded using a Poser utility called RTE Encoder. To use this free cr2 update download, you must first purchase the original Cole 2005 package from RuntimeDNA.com

This product still functions within Poser but simply recreates the older Apollo Poser figure cr2, now out of date. This Poser cr2 package is not optimized for Daz Studio, by Daz3d, without the free update described below.

The following is a post by Beth, in her own words, at Content Paradise:

"Thought I'd make an official post on this, as several folks seem to be having difficulty finding the information. Will get this up on my website as soon as time permits. Usually wait until I have several things to put up there.

The cr2 containing both Apollo 2007 enhancements and Cole morphs can be found at the link below.

http://www.capsces.com/cdifreebies/CDICole2007cr2.rte

Before the file can be unzipped, CDICole2007.rte must be decoded using RTEncoder available at http://www.rtencoder.com. RTEJava is available for use on Machintosh and can be found at http://www.geocities.com/RTEJava/alpha/index.html. The following steps are for decoding with RTEncoder:

1. Open RTEncoder and click the Decode button.
2. Click File to Decode, browse to where you downloded CDICole2007cr2.rte. Select the file and click Open.
3. Click Key File, browse to your Poser\Runtime\libraries\character\CDI Cole\ folder. Select All Files from the Files of Type drop down. Select Cole.cr2 and click Open.
4. Click Save As and save the CDICole2007cr2.zip to a folder of your choosing, such as the folder you downloaded to. Close RTEncoder.
5. Browse to the save location of the CDICole2007cr2.zip file, and install as follows:

Unzip CDICole2007cr2.zip to your Poser folder with the option to restore paths or an equivalent option provided by your Zip program.

Important Notes

As the face and body shaping poses are not updated, settings for the new morphs included with Apollo 2007 are not in them, and will not be zeroed when the poses are applied. This does not keep the poses from functioning as they were intended. If you want the result in the Cole pose icon, and new Apollo morphs have been adjusted, simply restore the head or figure by selecting Edit/Restore/Element or Figure from the Menu Bar. Note: restoring will restore more than just morphs (like rotations), so it is best to attain the look (morphs) you want before progressing. The Restore All, Restore Head, and Zero Body Moprhs that come with the original Cole will not work for this. They will only zero all original Apollo and Cole morphs, not the new Apollo morphs.

Clothing morphs are available from my site to fit the original Cole and Apollo morphs, and will work with all Cole body shaping poses as originally intended. However, the clothes will not work with the new Apollo morphs. In Poser 4 Pro (probably P4 too) and DAZ Studio (I think. Didn't test much), clothing containing Cole's morphs should work as intended, meaning morphs should apply automatically. In Poser 5, Poser 6, and Poser 7, after applying a body shaping pose, it will be necessary to select Apollo's ADS-BodyDials from the element list, copy, select the Body of each clothing figure and paste to fit them to Cole 2007.

Please note that the original Cole.cr2 will work as intended if you only have the new version of Apollo. It just does not make use of any of Apollo's new morphs. Most of Carodan's and Lee's characters will probably work with it as well. Any created using new Apollo morphs will require the Cole 2007 cr2.

For DAZ Studio users, there is a download on my site that updates Cole's body shaping poses, as they had some problem. They should go in the CDI Cole subcategory of the Pose libray, and be prefixed with DS."
